Assessing Outcomes in Engineering Education
Between 2021 and 2023, I worked at the CREATE Institute at the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE). As an academic assessment researcher, I collaborate with the PI team to manage a two-year, $771,000 grant to enhance assessment efforts related to the KEEN Framework, colloquially known as the Determining What Works (DW2) project. Our team worked with KEEN partners and stakeholders to better understand the current assessment and educational development landscape to promote meaningful and sustainable opportunities. Data sources include focus groups and a Delphi study.
Career Outcomes for Students with Disabilities
Between 2021 and 2024, I joined the Gregory S. Fehribach Center’s Research Advisory Board to enhance research on career experiences and preparation of college students with physical disabilities. The Fehribach Center is part of Eskenazi Health in Indianapolis, IN. Data sources drew from existing data to triangulate evaluation results and identify emerging themes from student reflections.
Inquiry in Student Affairs and Higher Education
Between 2020 and 2023, I began serving as an associate editor for the Journal of Student Affairs Inquiry. The editorial team focused on reviewing and updating submission and review processes as well as updating the visual identity of the Journal.
In 2012, my colleague and I developed a presentation to help inquiry professionals (e.g., researchers, assessment specialists, evaluators) visualize data and information from a quantitative and qualitative perspective. Between 2012 and 2018, aspects of this presentation were revised and used to support graduate courses in (a) research design, (b) assessment and evaluation, (c) survey methods, and (d) educational statistics at Iowa State University. I presented the information between 2019 and 2021 to undergraduate students who took social science statistics at Carroll University.
Personal and Social Dimensions of Campus Climate
Between 2011 and 2019, I served as key personnel on the Personal and Social Responsibility Inventory (PSRI) at Iowa State University. Between 2015 and 2019, I served as project manager and co-PI. During my time with PSRI, we partnered with the Bringing Theory to Practice Project’s Psychosocial Well-being Initiative. Data sources included open-ended responses, Likert-type survey questions, and institutional data.
Global Learning and Development
Between 2015 and 2019, I served as key personnel (i.e., project manager and co-PI) on the Global Perspective Inventory (GPI) at Iowa State University. Data sources included Likert-type survey questions and institutional data.
Global Competence and Education Abroad
In 2017, I led the development and submission of a three-year, $291,742 research grant with the U.S. Department of Education. Our proposal, colloquially known as the Global Century Project, was funded. Between 2017 and 2020, I led the project as a project manager and co-PI at Iowa State University (i.e., 2017-2019) and PI at Carroll University (i.e., 2019-2020). Data sources included open-ended responses, Likert-type survey questions, and institutional data.
Curriculum Assessment and Outcomes Alignment
Between 2017 and 2019, I partnered with the Department of Agronomy at Iowa State University to create a continuous improvement plan to inform curriculum development, departmental assessment, and outcome alignment. Data sources included course-level data, stakeholder surveys (e.g., employer, industry, alumni), and institutional records (e.g., retention, graduation, persistence).
Transfer Student Experience
Between 2017 and 2019, I partnered with the Department of Animal Science at Iowa State University to understand the experiences of transfer students in the Department of Animal Science at Iowa State University. Data sources included focus groups and survey data collection.
